Born in Seoul in 2003, South Korean pianist Jiyeon Lee distinguished herself early on through exceptional talent and a rare musical sensibility. From the very beginning of her journey, she attracted attention by being admitted as top of her class at the prestigious Yewon School, a renowned Korean arts institution, where she studied alongside her classmate Yunchan Lim. She went on to continue her training at the Seoul Arts High School, where she consolidated her technical and musical foundations with outstanding results.
Driven by a desire for artistic depth and cultural openness, she moved to France to further her musical development at the heart of the European piano tradition. Her academic path continued under the guidance of renowned pedagogues. She studied with Hervé Billaut at the CRR de Lyon, at the CRR du Grand Chalon, and then joined the class of Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt at the CRR de Rueil-Malmaison. She currently pursues her advanced studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMDL), in the class of Laurent Cabasso.
Alongside her studies, Jiyeon Lee enriches her artistic approach through numerous masterclasses and encounters with renowned musicians. She has received guidance from great figures of the piano such as Nelson Freire and Alexandre Tharaud, as well as pedagogues and artists including Jongdo An, Olivier Gardon, Hervé N'Kaoua, Jonas Vitaud and Guillaume Coppola. In Korea, she was trained by Rosa Park, Hyunjoo Hwang and Choong-mo Kang, who played a fundamental role in her early development.
A laureate of several international competitions, she has earned significant distinctions, including a First Prize with a Special Prize at the TONE X GALAXIE.Y International Competition in 2021, a First Prize at the CMS International Competition in Vienna in 2022, and a First Prize at the Ho Chi Minh City International Competition in 2019. Earlier in her career, she also received a Second Prize at the Liszt Competition of Korea in 2018, a distinction that earned her a special invitation from the Russian Embassy.
Her artistic activities have led her to perform at various festivals and events across Europe, where she is noted for the maturity and depth of her interpretations. She has been invited to perform at the Easter Festival of Saint-Philippe-du-Roule in Paris, the Festival Les Rendez-Vous de Rochebonne, the Nice International Summer Academy, and the Festival Belles Musiques. She was also a guest of honour at an official concert organised by the President of Grand Chalon.
Combining great interpretive finesse with a singular depth of sound, Jiyeon Lee develops a musical world imbued with sincerity and elegance. Her stage presence, both luminous and deeply felt, reflects a profound artistic commitment. She is establishing herself today as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation on the international stage.
